An Hour for the Queen

HSBKA Branch Apiary

Weather permitting (2013 was deep snow and 2015 heavy rain); just an hour of your time is needed to clean and tidy the apiary.  Again this year we need to remove of litter, plastic and dead undergrowth.

Molehills in an apiary are a real hazard, imagine tripping on one while carrying a beehive, so we need to rake out any that have appeared over the winter, plus one of the hive stands is in need of replacing.  We also need to review the micro climate of the two hive stands at the top right of the steps, is it too cold?  Do we need to move them (we didn't last year)

Turn up with a garden litter sack, a spade, fork, bill-hook, garden rake and stout groves and if it's warm a bee suit.

The branch apiary is located on the Stourbridge to Kidderminster road at Iverley.

From Stourbridge take the A451 signposted Kidderminster. Leave the 40 mph limit and travel up hill past the Crown Public House. As you descend from the crest of the hill turn right into the field by the large oak tree.

From Kidderminster take A451 signposted Stourbridge, cross over the staggered junction of the Caunsall to Churchill road and in 500 yards turn left into the field just after the large mound of earth on your left, that's by the large oak tree.

Park in the lay-by on the A451 just uphill from the apiary or on the verge by the large oak tree. PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF PASSING TRAFFIC!
