1st Apiary Meeting

Sunday 3 April 2022 at 12:00 pm

HSBKA Branch Apiary

Last year’s meetings were cancelled due to Covid.  This year we hope for a temperature over 15 degrees centigrade. Beginners without bee-suits please bring Wellies & Marigolds.

The jobs today are:
•    Inspect live colonies for food, brood and disease and act accordingly.
•    Find mark & clip the queens.
•    Put at least one frame of foundation in each hive, two frames maximum.
•    Give each colony one super and Queen excluder if they need it.
•    Feed colonies if needed.
•    Form a management plan for each hive and the apiary as a whole.

If this meeting cannot go ahead because of cold weather then there will be a class on hive assembly and frame making at the Apiary Manager’s home, address on your invite email.

THE VENUE IS HSBKA Branch Apiary

The branch apiary is located on the Stourbridge to Kidderminster road at Iverley.

From Kidderminster take A451 signposted Stourbridge, cross over the staggered junction of the Caunsall to Churchill road and the apiary  is in 600 metres on your left, look out for the tree covered mound of earth.

Park in the lay-by on the A451 just uphill from the apiary or on the verge by the large oak tree. PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF PASSING TRAFFIC!
